For the past four years, Dunmow have supported local charity, St Clare Hospice with their Christmas tree recycling campaign. Back in 2021, they collected and we recycled more than 1,200 trees and raised over £18,000 for the hospice.
This January, St Clare Hospice held another tree-mendously successful Christmas tree recycling campaign which raised over £20,000 for the Hospice from the donations people made to have their tree collected around Essex.
Ellie Gale, St Clare Community Fundraiser said, “It was an incredibly busy weekend. This year over 1,450 trees were booked in for recycling which is a new record for us! Every tree we collected is recycled by turning it into wood chippings and compost, so saving them from going into landfill. This year’s tree collection fundraiser was a real team effort! We couldn’t have done it without the amazing army of more than 60 St Clare Hospice volunteers and supporters. They all got stuck in and helped with the prickly task of picking up the trees and getting them into the vans.”
Dunmow Group supported the campaign by donating and delivering four 12-yard skips to the tree recycling HQ. The trees were put through a wood chipper before being put into the skip to save space. The skips were then delivered back to our Chelmsford Recycling Center for further processing and recycling.
St Clare provides specialist free, compassionate care and support to adults who are living with a life-limiting illness, facing the end of life or experiencing bereavement in West Essex and East Herts. The local charity relies heavily on fundraising activity to cover the cost of their vital care.
Ellie added, “The money raised from this campaign could cover the cost of our Hospice at Home team for 10 days. The Hospice at Home nursing assistants are an absolute lifeline for people with a life-limiting condition, and their family, helping them to get the care they deserve in the comfort of their own home.”
