Dunmow Group has successfully completed a major clean-up operation at the former Felsted railway station house in Little Dunmow, removing more than 93 tonnes of illegally dumped waste from a site that has become one of Essex's most well-known fly-tipping hotspots. The derelict station site, located off Gypsy Lane, has suffered from persistent fly-tipping for many years. In recent months, the problem had escalated significantly, with more than 80 metres of waste stretching along the site. Piles of discarded furniture, fridges, mattresses and general household rubbish had become a familiar sight, attracting widespread concern from local residents and media coverage across Essex.

Working over four days, our team carried out a large-scale clearance using a combination of:
In total, over 93 tonnes of waste were removed from the site. Rather than simply disposing of the material, every load was transported back to Dunmow Group's advanced recycling facility in Chelmsford, where it was sorted and processed to maximise recycling and minimise landfill wherever possible.

As an Essex-based waste management company, we're passionate about protecting our local environment. Illegal fly-tipping doesn't just spoil the appearance of our countryside; it creates environmental hazards, attracts further dumping, and places a significant financial burden on landowners and local authorities. This clearance has helped restore a site that has been a long-standing concern for the local community, opening the way for a more permanent solution.

The former station house is expected to be sold at auction, with plans for the site to be cleared, secured and protected against future fly-tipping. Local authorities have also confirmed that measures will be put in place to help prevent the problem from returning. We're proud to have played our part in helping restore this historic location and supporting efforts to ensure it remains free from illegal waste in the future.

Fly-tipping remains one of the biggest environmental challenges facing communities across the UK. By disposing of waste responsibly and using licensed waste carriers, businesses and householders can help prevent incidents like this from happening and protect our local environment for future generations. At Dunmow Group, we're committed to keeping Essex clean through responsible waste management, recycling and environmental services that make a real difference.
